Within a thirty minute appointment your ears will be examined, excess wax removal effected and a hearing check performed. A fifteen minute window between appointments is built in to ensure you are not rushed and the consulting room can be cleaned and sanitised between clients.

My name is Diane and I am an experienced and professionally qualified practitioner. Having successfully offered ear wax removal within a local pharmacy, I have set up an ear clinic, located in the centre of Ardleigh, specialising in ear wax removal and hearing checks.

Should ear wax removal be required, problem ear wax will be removed effectively, safely and painlessly using advanced technology microsuction, irrigation or specialised manual tools, leaving your ears clear and healthy.
No Hidden Costs
Should a follow-up visit be required, for example if the wax has not been adequately softened, there will be no additional charge for the follow up visit.

The Link Between Hearing Loss and Dementia
1 in 6 adults in the UK are affected by hearing loss. Greater hearing loss and longer duration of hearing problems increase dementia risk. Hearing loss can lead to social isolation and brain strain, both of which may contribute to cognitive decline. Hearing loss is a risk factor, not a cause, and not everyone with hearing loss will develop dementia which is why hearing checks are so important.
What is ear wax?
Earwax is a natural substance made from dead skin cells and secretions from sweat and oil glands in the ear canal. It plays an important protective role: its slightly acidic nature helps defend against bacteria and microbes, while its water-repellent (hydrophobic) properties prevent infections, itching, and muffled hearing caused by trapped moisture. Although earwax is essential for ear health, excessive build-up can lead to problems like earaches, hearing difficulties, dizziness, and even coughing.
Six reasons why you have too much ear wax
If you suddenly notice an increase in earwax, addressing the underlying cause can help prevent further build-up. There are six main reasons this could happen:
- Ear Infection: Often mistaken for earwax build-up, infections cause pain and foul-smelling drainage, unlike typically painless earwax.
- Irritation from Earbuds or Hearing Aids: Frequent use of earbuds or poorly fitted hearing aids can irritate the ear canal, block natural drainage, push wax deeper, and even cause infections.
- Using Q-Tips: Cleaning with Q-tips can irritate the ear canal, trigger more wax production, and push wax further inside. Instead, softening earwax with mineral or baby oil is recommended.
- Ear Hair: Especially in men, ear hair can block the natural movement of earwax, causing build-up.
- Chlorinated Water Exposure: Swimming in pools can irritate the ear canal, leading to increased wax production. After swimming, drying the ears carefully with a hair dryer can help.
